La Habra (3-0) at Buena Park (0-2), 7 p.m.: The area’s top-ranked Highlanders have impressive wins over Chaminade, Fullerton and Sonora, and it figures to make it four straight. It was a nice improvement for the Dons, but it won’t help them much in this one.
After Whittier lost to El Rancho 13-6 in the season opener, it bounced back with a rout over Cosa Mesa 68-20. He’s one of the area’s leading receivers with 12 receptions for 193 yards and a TD. Quarterback Dylan Long has thrown for 417 yards and four touchdowns, and they’re averaging more than 250 yards on the ground. La Serna (2-0) at California HS, 7 p.m.: La Serna has been nothing but solid this spring, having routed Muir and El Rancho. But the inside intel we have suggests West Covina takes back the bragging rights. However, it did hammer West Covina 42-13 the last time the teams met, and CalPreps’ computers are predicting a South Hills victory. It lost several players to transfers, and was just 5-6 in 2019. South Hills is playing its first game and is a big mystery. He’s still searching for his first win since his return, having lost Chaffey 30-12 and Glendora 33-7. West Covina coach Mike Maggiore is back on the sidelines for the Bulldogs. The stadium won’t be packed like it normally was in the pre-COVID-19 days, but the passions always run high in this one. South Hills (0-0) at West Covina (0-2), 7 p.m.: The “Kings of Cameron” game has turned into one of the best rivalries in the San Gabriel Valley. Sierra Vista asked for this challenge, but not sure they will want it once the game starts. This is a major step-up game for the Dons, taking on a Wildcats team that routed Northview before losing to upper-division Paraclete. The Wildcats finished 10-2 in 2019 and competed in Division 9. In all of those wins, the Dons never played a team at Monrovia’s level. Sierra Vista opened the spring season picking up where it left off, routing Montclair 48-0. The Dons eventually had to forfeit nearly half of those games because of an ineligible player, but what they did on the field could not be ignored. The Dons won their first 11 games, routing nearly everyone in 2019 before a second-round loss to Loara in the Division 14 playoffs. Sierra Vista (1-0) at Monrovia (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Sierra Vista program changed overnight after coach Sergio Villasenor and his son, offensive coordinator Matt Villasenor, took over in 2019.
